1. How do you determine what books you will send me?
After joining, I ask you to fill out a simple email questionnaire form to identify your favorite authors and subjects of interest, along with any books you would like to add to your collection. Upon completion of the questionnaire, new members will instantly receive a $10 Gift Certificate to the website. Members are also asked to share their public Amazon.com Wish List and Facebook information (if applicable) to help me customize my selections.
2. What happens if you receive a book you already own or are not interested in? Easy, just return it in one of the enclosed mailers and we will be glad to pay return postage. I want to send you books that you don't already have and books that you can't live without, so I will continue to tailor and modify your selections based on your current inventory. I am interested in helping you grow your one-of-a-kind library.
3. What if I decide that the Rare Book Club is not for me?Memberships can be canceled at anytime for any reason. Annual memberships which are canceled will be prorated based on the number of active months, at the aforementioned monthly rate of $25.
4.
Where do you find all these rare and out-of-print books?
I have been in business for over ten years as a professional bookseller, and along the way have developed a steady stream of locations for acquiring new and unusual inventory. I travel all across the Midwest, New England and Southern states to find the perfect book for you.
5. I'm looking for a Gutenberg Bible or a Shakespeare First Folio, can you send me a copy when I join?OK, this is the Rare and Out-of-Print Book Club, not the Make-a-Wish Foundation:) We will do our best to send you hard to find or unusual books in your primary areas of interest, but we probably won't be shipping off million dollar books anytime soon.
6. Can you tell me a little more about what type of books I will receive as a member?
Sure. Let's say you consider yourself a Foodie or Gourmet Chef whose favorite movie of all-time is "Big Fish".
Here is a link to the type of books you would receive. Also, I have several thousand books in my inventory at the Andover Antique Mall which are not available on the website, so this link is by no means comprehensive
. So, in January you might receive a signed Michael Chiarello cookbook, in February you might get a copy of Vincent Price's out-of-print cooking classic
A Treasury of Great Recipes and in March you may open your mailbox to find a collectible copy of the 1st Printing of Daniel Wallace's novel
Big Fish, upon which the movie was based. Who knows just what goodies you might receive the rest of the year!
